Increase in Road Deaths

The Reported Road Casualties Great in Britain: Main Results 2014 shows a 4% increase for road deaths up to 1,775 from 2013. There is also an increase of 5% in the number of people seriously injured up to 22,807. Another increase of 5% in the number of people killed or seriously injured up to 24,582 compared to 2013. Slight injuries increasing by 6% to 169,895 and a rise in all road casualties to 194,477, also an increase in 6%.

With the exception of 2010 to 2011, which was affected by severe weather, 2014 is the first rise in fatalities over the calendar year since 2003. It is also the first rise in seriously injured casualties since 1994.

What is going wrong? What can we do to work towards zero road causalities?
