Advanced driver training using an automatic car in Rotherham.

Advanced driver training has benefits. The reality is that most drivers will never have taken part in any driver training once they have passed their test. Even as experienced drivers we all get into bad habits over the years. Sometimes it is beneficial just to have someone independent to assess our driving and help us to improve.

“I drive an automatic car. Don’t I have to drive a manual car to take part in advanced driving courses?” No. Advanced driving is for everyone. I drive an automatic car.

What is advanced driver training?

• Advanced driver training can be whatever you want it to be and whatever driver training would benefit you the most. For example, you may want to follow Roadcraft and work towards an advanced driving test. However, you may wish to develop your driving skills and enjoyment without taking any more driving tests.

Maybe you are a potential driving instructor (PDI) working towards your ADI Part 2 exam. Perhaps you are an experienced driver who wants to develop their skills but without the formality of any advanced driving tests. Maybe you just want some support to deal with new road layouts such as complex roundabouts or maybe help using smart motorways.

“What if I have just passed my driving test or I am under 25 years of age. What’s the point of more training?”

• Advanced driver training can also help to build your confidence, develop your on road experience and reduce your road risk if you have just passed your driving test. If you are an inexperienced driver and/or under 25 years of age, advanced driver training could be for you. Being able to get extra practice post driving test can help you to focus on areas of driving you do not feel confident with. For example, driving in the dark, using motorways or parking safely. Post test driver training will help you to reduce your on road risk.

Learning advanced driving in an automatic car is as satisfying as learning in a manual vehicle. Many modern automatic vehicles, including mine, are semi automatic which means the driver can select the gear they want to match the engine and road speed. The only difference is there is no clutch pedal. You will develop your observations, awareness and planning. You will also learn how to be a reflective driver, developing your ability to think about your drive, what you did well and what you could do better. Also, you will learn about what influences your behavior as a driver and what strategies you can use to help manage your stressors.

Whether your individual goal is to build confidence as the roads get busier or following an accident, learn techniques to help stay safe and enjoy driving, save fuel or prepare for an advanced driving test. Advanced driver training can help you reach these goals.

Whether you are an experienced driver or you have just passed your test, you can benefit from further driver training by learning techniques which will help you to scan the road, recognise risks and use a 'system of car control' to drive safely.

The advanced driving courses and training I offer in Rotherham will be tailored to meet your needs. For example, if you want to work towards passing an advanced driving test I can help you to achieve your goal. However, if you want to learn advanced driving techniques to improve your enjoyment of driving we can also work towards this.

To be an advanced driver you do not need to pass an advanced driving test. Advanced driving is about wanting to be the best driver you can be be. There is no pressure to work towards advanced driving tests. Advanced driving is an attitude to be the safest driver you can be.

Advanced driver training delivered by me costs £40 per hour. Lessons are usually for a minimum of 1.5 hours (£60). Longer sessions including half and full days maybe available by special arrangement. Training delivered in my automatic car.
