Everyone Welcome!

Eco friendly driver training using an automatic car in Rotherham.

The benefits of eco efficient driving are attractive. For example, saving you money on fuel and reducing the wear on your tyres and brakes. Also, reducing your emisions which is helping the environment. Techniques are easy to learn and when put into practice are effective.

You will be driving my automatic car which is a very high specification plug in hybrid.

The reality is that eco efficient driving and risk management go hand in hand. For example, drivers who are aggressive, accelerate and brake harshly are not eco efficient.  Drivers who follow so closely to vehicles that they are constantly braking to avoid running into the car in front are not eco efficient. Drivers who constantly have to react to what is happening because they fail to anticipate risks are not eco efficient. They are also at greater risk of being involved in an accident.

However, by developing observational skills, anticipating what may happen and planning we move from being reactive to proactive drivers. Proactive drivers come off the gas to slow, make rolling starts rather than standing starts, maintain a safe following distance and use acceleration sense.  These are defensive driving techniques which are also eco efficient. It is a win win situation.

Driver behaviours such as aggression and impatience are associated with driving styles which are not eco efficient. It therefore makes sense to address these behaviours which will in turn help to improve fuel efficiency by helping drivers to be smoother.

How will eco driving benefit you?

If you consistently implement the techniques I will show you then you will potentially benefit from:

  • Reduced carbon emissions helping the environment

  • Increased miles per gallon (mpg) saving you money

  • Reduced risk of being involved in accidents

  • Reduced vehicle wear and tear saving you money

  • Opportunities to demonstrate your commitment to the environment

Everything from the type of car and the fuel it uses to the way in which you drive influences the environment. You should understand how to reduce any negative effects to keep the air we breathe cleaner.

You need to understand how driving affects the environment and be aware of:

  • the effect that vehicle exhaust gases have on the climate and health

  • how to reduce fuel consumption by changing their driving style

  • new technologies offering clean alternatives to fossil fuels

To minimise your effect on the environment, you should know how to:

  • reduce your fuel consumption by planning ahead and using the highest possible gear without making the engine struggle

  • make sure your car is serviced as per manufacturer’s recommendations and is in a good condition

  • check your car’s tyre pressures – tyre pressure can have a significant effect on fuel efficiency

  • dispose of vehicle waste (like spent oil, old batteries and used tyres) correctly
