The theory test consists of multiple choice questions and a hazard perception test which must be passed together.

You have 57 minutes to answer 50 multiple-choice questions. The possible answers to each question are displayed on a computer screen. Three of the questions are about a short video which you will be able to watch as many times as you like during the test.

These questions are based on the Highway Code, Know your traffic signs and Driving the essential skills.

You can have a break of up to 3 minutes before the hazard perception test starts.

The hazard perception test consists of 14 video clips which feature everyday roads scenes. Each clip will contain at least one developing hazard. However, two of the clips will include two.

A developing hazard is something that would cause you to take action. For example, change speed or direction. You can score up to 5 points for each developing hazard. You only get one attempt at each clip. You cannot review or change your responses.

To pass your theory test you must score 43 out of a possible 50 marks for the multiple choice questions and 44 out of a possible 75 marks for the hazard perception.
