Supporting Older People to Keep Driving

Getting older should not stop us from driving. In fact many of us depend upon driving for our day to day independence.

As older drivers we have built up years of driving experience. We are also amongst the safest drivers on the road v the highest risk group which consists of young drivers.

However, we need to recognise that to keep driving some of us may need some help.

As we get older we need to understand:

  • How reduced physical mobility can make driving more challenging

  • The importance of regular eyesight checks

  • How our speed perception abilities can deteriorate with age
