Reducing Road Casualties by Stopping Crashes

Yesterday I attended a seminar in Hull.

It was an interesting day listening to speakers talking about their areas of expertise. For example, community speed watch, safety auditing, incident investigation, hazard perception, making junctions safer and new insights into cycle safety.

The presentation about hazard perception was particularly interesting. For example, there is a clear link between those drivers who are good at hazard perception i.e. know where to look, what to look for, how to manage the risks they see and the number of accidents they are involved in.

The better you are at hazard perception the lower your risk.

This links in directly with learning to drive or post test driver training. For example, as you learn techniques to scan the road you become more aware of other road users and start to anticipate what they are going to do.
