Early day Motion 696: National Road safety Week 2016.
There is going to be a debate in the House of Commons at 4.30 pm on Tuesday 6th December 2016 regarding Early day Motion 696: National Road safety Week 2016. Whilst I am not sure what the agenda for the debate is or what the outcomes will be I did read the information on the House of Commons supporters’ page for this debate which can be found at

What stands out for me is the lack of MPs supporting the motion. Everyday people are being killed and seriously injured on our roads. This should not be happening in 2016.
Also, consider the vast sums of money the Department of Transport has estimated these accidents are costing.
"That this House notes that five people are killed and 62 seriously injured on UK roads every day; further notes that there can be no acceptable level of road casualties; notes that the Department of Transport 2016 estimated cost of reported road accidents was £15.3billion, with the estimate for unreported road casualties costing in excess of £35.5billion."
Whilst we may be doing well when we compare ourselves to other countries we are not doing enough. Road safety needs to be given more priority because what we are doing now is not working.
We need to come up with more innovative ways to improve road safety.
