Drivers admit to drink driving over Christmas
One-in-five motorists are likely to drink and drive over the Christmas holiday according to a survey.
Despite the annual campaign against drink driving and around three thousand killed or seriously injured by drinking drivers, 22% of UK drivers admitted they were likely to drink and drive over the holiday period.
Men were five times more likely than women to drink and drive this holiday while young drivers were the biggest culprits with 16% making the admission.
The second biggest age range to make the confession came from motorists between the ages of 55 and 64. Nine per cent of motorists in this bracket divulged that they probably would drink and drive over the upcoming holiday.
The survey from vehicle supply firm OSV also showed that motorists based in Scotland were more likely to drink and drive than motorists based anywhere else in the UK this Christmas. Eight per cent of motorists from Scotland made the admission, closely followed by 6% of motorists located in England.
Co-Founder of OSV Debbie Kirkley said: “Drivers need to be more aware of the dangers and consequences that drink driving can bring.
“Not only can you ruin your own life, you can also ruin the lives of others. No matter what time of the year it is, it is important to drive responsibly and without being under the influence of alcohol.” Source ADI News

For many of us no licence means no job. No job no mortgage payments, no house and no way of paying the bills.
But what if you kill someone or seriously injure them?
The reality is that we may get caught up in the Christmas mood. The atmosphere is good and we find ourselves having a couple of drinks. Do you drive home or get a taxi? Do you drive to work next morning or phone in sick with an ailment not connected to your hangover?
We all have choices to make all of which have consequences. What's the worst that will happen if you phone in sick? Go to prison for killing another human being?
